Yuri Vernydub: "First of all, you need to stay professional"
In the first part of the pre-season interview with the head coach of FC Sheriff Yuri Vernydub, talked about the preparation of the team for the second part of the season:
- Yuri, how did the adaptation go?
- Things are good. The conditions for preparation are excellent. There were a lot of players for trial. But, I think, we have decided on the line-up, we had a fruitful month of training in Tiraspol.
- Did the fact that the team did not go to the training camp in Turkey changed the training process in the plans?
- First of all, I’ll say that we didn’t go and because many players left, compared to last year. The team has been renewed by almost 50-60, or even 70 percent. In order to go to the training camp in Turkey, we needed a team, and at that time we were collecting it. Staying at home was the best option, especially since we have good conditions, a wonderful Indoor Stadium. It is clear that the coverage has been changed. Synthetics and natural turf are two different things. Even this factor is a plus for us. In the Championship of Moldova, as far as I know, it is allowed to play on fields with synthetic turf until April 1. The first rounds, February 20 and 24, March 1 and 6, I think, will be held on such surfaces. We will be more adapted to this.
- Did the quality of the opponents matter?
- Of course, at the training camp you can pick up better quality opponents. There are also European clubs, from Ukraine, from Russia. But we got acquainted with the teams of the Moldovan championship. The games that we played were also an acquaintance for me as a coach. And the new boys also saw these teams.
- How important for you is how the players fit into the training process?
- I'll start with something else - it's also a novelty for me that the team has a lot of players from all continents, European countries. International team. It's also a school for me. There is an opportunity to improve the English language, which is necessary. Thank God we have translators. Though, not all the boys speak English well, but we also have translators who help in communication, for example, with Colombians. Nothing wrong. Both I and the coaching staff will learn English faster. There is an incentive for the boys to do this too. We constantly tell them that this will make it possible to understand everything faster.
- They say that Yuri Vernydub is a very demanding coach. Are you satisfied with the work done?
- They fulfill all the requirements that the coaching staff put before the players. I have no claim in this regard. The attitude to the training process is gorgeous. Some did not immediately, but during the month that we are working together, I think we were able to lay the foundation, physically prepare the boys, plus those tactical moments that we played in the training process. I hope they understood everything. It remains to bring all this to life.
- The next question follows from the previous one and concerns the last match. It seemed from the tribune that you asked, despite the large score, to finish the match at the same level. Is it so?
- You are absolutely right. I believe that any game - whether test, or friendly, or official, we must start and finish the same way, in one go. Despite the score, despite the game that was, we must complete the tasks and the whole game plan. It is clear that when the score is major, self-indulgence begins to appear. I think that this should not be done. You need to remain a professional, and bring any business to completion. Therefore, the tips were for some players, and some of the boys were substituted after the first half. This will be science and school. First of all, you need to stay professional. Just like them, we, the coaching staff, must treat our work professionally.
