Soumaila Magassouba: «Transition to Sheriff is an important step in my career»
Malian newcomer of FC “Sheriff” Soumaila Magassouba shared his first impressions after the transition to the team, talked about the process of adaptation, his experience in African soccer and plans for the future.
- Sumaila, congratulations on the transition to FC “Sheriff”...
- Thank you! I was very happy to sign a contract with “Sheriff”, because this is my first professional contract in Europe. Thank God that I ended up in such a high level club. I want to thank everyone who helped me to come to this moment.
- How was the process of adaptation in the new club? What are your first impressions of the team and infrastructure?
- I was received here very well, the atmosphere in the team is friendly. I am especially pleased that the club has players who speak French - it makes adaptation easier. I would like to thank my compatriot Moussa Kiyaba, who helps me to settle in. As for the infrastructure - it is impressive. There are excellent training conditions here, a lot of fields. I won't even compare it to Africa - it's just a fairy tale!
- Have you heard anything about the Moldovan championship and the level of competition in the Super League?
- Yes, not even from Moussa, but even earlier. I followed the career of Adam Traore, who successfully plays for our national team. I read about him and about the level of soccer in Moldova.
- Who, in your opinion, is in the top of the Mali national team now?
- Mohamed Camara and Yves Bissouma.
- Tell us about your experience at Stade Malen and your performance in the CAF Confederation Cup. What was the most memorable moment?
- The Confederations Cup was an important stage for me, because it was my first professional matches at this level. It was not easy, I was very worried, because I do not like to lose. We lost the first game, but the team supported me, and in the return match we won. I even managed to score a goal - it was an incredible feeling!
- You have already made your debut for Sheriff. How was the first game?
- The feeling was just amazing! I really wanted to score, despite the fact that I play in defense. I always try to be as focused on the opponent's goal as possible. My family was very happy with my debut for the new team.
- What goals do you set for yourself this season?
- First of all - to become the champion of the country. I also want to help the team to win the Moldovan Cup and to perform well in European cups.
- Which of the defenders do you look up to?
- Definitely Virgil van Dijk and Sergio Ramos.
- What aspects of your game do you want to improve at Sheriff?
- First of all, I want to fully feel the team spirit, to establish interaction with partners. I also want to become even more reliable, stable and prepared for any challenges.
- What would you like to say to the fans of the club before the game with Zimbru?
- In the first game against Spartanii we have already felt their incredible support, for which we thank them very much! They are very important for us in every match. We will try to please them with our game. I take this opportunity to invite everyone to the match against Zimbru Chisinau. We are ready to play reliably in defense, we are ready to attack and, most importantly, we are ready to give you the emotions of victory!
