Shota Makharadze: We can do more, we just need to find our potential
FC Sheriff U-17 coach on the team’s victory in the Championship, the Academy’s formula for success and the playing of the boys for the Moldova national team.
Shota, our congratulations to you and the team on winning the Championship! Your feelings on this big sports event?
Thank you for congratulations! I’d like to say that it’s a victory of the entire Football Academy Sheriff, starting from the head coach to the instructors who work with the youngest children. As for the Championship, six teams were competing, all teams of about the same level. All our opponents are strong; I can’t say there were any outsiders. Many points were lost in the battles between the teams; there were numerous games where the outcome was clear in the last minutes. Overall, the Championship was interesting and I want to thank the opponents for the games as they made us stronger. All games came with interesting struggle and our trainees became far stronger. We tried different formations during the Championship and it’s another factor for the team play development.
Your team got a lead of 11 points from the closest pursuer even though you say that on the whole, the level of the contestants is almost the same. How did you manage to make such a score in the standings?
We try to teach the boys to be responsible for the result. Everyone understands that we have high training conditions and what conditions our rivals have. Thus, we aim high and we talk about it with the teams all the time. Our boys were eager to win and had a big faith in themselves. We have a wonderful staff out there and I’m glad to work together with Denis Laptev. Discipline, character, and persevering work – all these factors influence the game’s result. I told the team many times that we can do more, we just need to find the potential and after that, we will hardly be satisfied with a little.
You are an assistant coach to the reserves’ head coach and participate in the training of teams born in 2000 and 2001. Do you have any free time, and if so, how do you spend it?
I have free time. Well, when you like your work and your team, you don’t feel tired. We have great staff and team that it’s a pleasure to work with. And bright, eager eyes of our players also motivate a lot. Thank God, I’m in this wonderful football family.
Tell us about the playing of your trainees for the Moldova national team.
Unfortunately, only three players are called up to the team and only one plays in the line-up. I’m sure, now there will be more attention to us. The result in the Championship speaks for itself. Our guys deserve to play for the national team and they show it in all season games. It’s not easy to join the national team and it’s a good motivation for our trainees.
Last time you were interviewed on the PRO license. How are things in this respect?
There are still two studying modules and then the final part –the exams. I’m happy that I received this opportunity to study. People involved in our profession shall always look for new knowledge and creative ideas.
