Roberto Bordin: All teams of the championship will be in the same conditions
The second part of the big interview from FC Sheriff head coach Roberto Bordin was given to club’s press office and TSV Channel:
- Let’s look into the future. Pre-seasonal training camp has started. It will be very short. How unusual are these terms for you and how do they differ from full training camps?
- These training camps are of course difficult. And not much time for preparation. Last match was played with Dacia on 30th May. Then we had vacation for 7 days. They deserved vacation and had to have it. The championship starts on 1 July. We don’t have choice. We need to adapt and do our job well.
- The season was not easy, do you think such short vacation will have influence on players?
- We let players afford themselves two days for relaxation and not think about football. Every player has his individual program for maintaining his playing tonus and for easier involving to preparation process. Despite the hard season, we tried to have the team in good shape. For instance, Ginsari and Bordian showed in national team games that they are in great shape. First days of training sessions after vacation tell us about good condition of the team. The vacation did not influence.
- Let’s talk about European cups. It is your first experience as a head coach. Are you excited?
- Of course, I am excited and have positive emotions. I had such experience as a head coach assistant. Now I am thinking about preparation for the first game of the championship. And it means that we get ready for the first game in the UEFA Champions League.
- You have probably seen the list of FC Sheriff opponents. Are there any preferences? – I don’t want to talk about names. It often happens you don’t want a team and you have it. There are a few strong teams with good financial opportunities. Our task is to prepare well for any opponent.
- Sheriff has high goals in the Champions League, the championship is short. Do you agree that the new season is a new challenge and it will be even harder?
- It refers not only to FC Sheriff. All teams of the championship will be in equal conditions. And we don’t have a right to make mistake. And we should do our job on a highest level. FC Sheriff always has high tasks and strives to win in every match. I hope we will make it.
- The fact that the championship starts at the same time with European cups is positive for the team or not?
- It can be a big plus in a psychological way. The players will realize they are ready to play on the international level. In a way of physiology, it can influence negatively. There will be fewer training sessions and a big physical pressure. I think it is 50/50.
- There are friendly matches ahead. What is more important in these games – result or the game of the team? What do you expect from players?
- The result is of course important, in a psychological way. The most important is the behavior of players. The way they are on the field and how they understand requests from coaching staff. And the way new players would feel.
- How did you spend your vacation, were you congratulated with the success that you achieved with the team?
- I had many congratulations. And they were addressed not only to me but to the whole team. I spent vacation with my family, wife and children. I tried to visit my relatives, my parents. However, my body had rest but my head did not. And I was constantly thinking about the start of work with the team.
- The previous season was the triumph for Italian school of coaching. Conte won with Chelsea, Carrera with Spartak, Ancelotti with Bayern. Do you agree that you are part of them? - Also Rossi who won in Poland. I think all these coaches are of high. It is an honor for me to be in the list of coaches who won championships in different countries. Italian football has always been made of many tactical schemes. It’s an honor for me that I could win both the championship and the Cup of Moldova.
- Do you have something to say to supporters who have been following Sheriff in good and bad times?
- I want to say a big thank you to them. Supporters are very important for us. Even in those situations when we lost, they stayed with us. It is a thank you not only from me but from the whole team. It was great when we celebrated victory together and had a chance to give them the Cup.
