Peter Banda: "This is a new challenge and growth in my career"
The first interview of Peter Banda as a player of FC Sheriff. The Malawi national team player shared his first impressions of his stay in our club.
- Peter, you are a player of FC Sheriff. What can you say?
-I'm deeply excited for this opportunity that FC Sheriff has given me. It's a dream come true because I've always had the bigger picture of me playing in Europe. Getting this deal is not only a big thing to me but it's also a big thing to Malawian football, especially to my fellow youngsters who have ambitions to play at a bigger stage like this one, so when I say I'm deeply excited, I really am because this is a very important step for me.
- How did you choose football? This is usually a family tradition. For example, a father who was also a football player in the past ...
- Football is something that has been deep-rooted in me. I was introduced to football at birth. Yes, my father (unfortunately, he is no longer with us) was playing for the biggest club in Malawi and apart from him, my whole family is a football/sports family. My grandfather, who was for a long time coach for the Malawi Netball Team was also a football person, my uncles, cousins and almost everyone in my family is fond of football, so you can see how I was influenced into taking football as my career.
- You were named the Best Player of the Year 2019 in Malawi after you became the champion of the country with Big Bullets FC.
-Being voted best player in 2019 was one of the biggest things that happened in my life. It's one of the biggest individual accolades in football in my country. I had just joined my dream local team (Nyasa Big Bullets). In the first year of my work in the club we managed to win the championship, and the award, let's say, was an icing on the cake.
- Are you glad to be in the same team with Charles Petro again?
- Charles was one of my close friends back home and reuniting with him here is something that I cherish because it has made adaptation easier here in Tiraspol. He's someone that I've always looked up to, both when he was playing for Bullets as well as the Malawi National Team and I know he's going to support me and make me a better player at the new team.
- How do you like participating in test sparrings?
- I was happy to be part of the test matches because that was the beginning of my contribution to the FC Sheriff family. This is the first step in a long journey that I will go with the team. It was good playing with new friends and getting to know everyone here.
- Now a new life begins. What will it be?
- For me, this is a new challenge and growth in my career. I see myself becoming the best version of myself. I would like to use this stage to improve myself and the club's achievements in the Championship and in the international arena.
