Luka Pavlovic: Sheriff-2 is breeding ground of the first team
Prior to the second part of the Championship in Division A, Sheriff-2 head coach Luka Pavlovic shared his thoughts about the tournament, work in Sheriff Football Academy and shared his view on football:
- Give your estimation to the first part of the Championship in Division A.
- Speaking about our team, I may be satisfied about our game, and the fact that we took the first place in the first round of the championship. We had some problems in the beginning that led us to home defeat to Real-Success. In a football way we have a higher level but this is football and it is hard to think in advance. It was our only defeat. Victoria surprised me with their game, Spikul played well.
- Are you satisfied with the result?
- I think, the result of the work for Sherif-2 and the Academy is the indicator of the number of Academy trainees in the first team. I know that the main advantage of the Academy is victory. But we also understand that it is important to train a young player for the future. We train Academy players so that they could play at a high level. The Cup, Championship and medals must be on the second place comparing to the development of technical and physical abilities of young players and teaching a football game.
- Second team prepares the ground for the first team. How many players, in your opinion, are ready to become main players of the first team?
- I agree that Sheriff-2 is breeding ground of the first team. Second team coaches should prepare the players in a technical, tactical, physical and psychological way. And in order to achieve this, coaching staff of both teams must cooperate. If possible, training process and style of play should correspond. It is required for quick adaptation of young players in the first team. 5 young players went with the first team to Turkey for training camps. But in my opinion, there are players in the second team who can help the first team and in the future they can become professionals. I want to mark such players as Bondarenco, Semirov, Cobet, Puntus, Belicki, Voropai. They improve their game each day.
- You’ve been working in the Academy for a year. What do you think need to be changed so that at least 1-2 players get in the first team?
- Yes, I have been working for a year in Sheriff Academy. It is hard and late to change something when the player is 18-19 years old. But we should work differently in a football school since the age of 7, so that these players are completely prepared. We have a plan and development program for trainings at all ages. Coaches know exactly how to train them at every age. In the process of young players’ development there is a sensitive phase of development, coaches should know methods and didactics, know content in order to develop a young player. It is a very serious work. Coaches should know that they change their anatomy, physiology, his cognitive and conative abilities. It is a very serious work and you need to have great knowledge. If we start our work in the right way, then we can say the Academy will prepare 1-2 players per year.
- What qualities do you value in your players?
- If I want something, then I can do everything. If I know and want, then I will do even better. I think this way. So I value psychological qualities of a player. Of course, football knowledge is very important, football technics. It is a means of tactics. We cannot teach players tactics if they don’t have good-quality technical knowledge. It is a means of tactics. For this you need to have power and functional abilities. You cannot play without these qualities in football at a high level.
- There are quite strong teams in Division A now and they set high goals.
- I can say that this Championship is very interesting. There are three or four serious teams. Two talented young teams – Zimbru-2 and Dacia-2. I hope the second part of the tournament will be even more interesting.
- Will the second place mean that Sheriff-2 failed?
- I don’t think so, I believe it is necessary to prepare the players at a highest level for the first team. But we do everything that we can to take the first place in the championship. We have everything for that, physically we are well prepared. The big problem for us is to play in away matches on bad fields. It is just impossible to play football.
