FC Veris – FC Sheriff, December 3, 2014
FC Sheriff have won their fight for the Cup of Moldova semifinal. They scored in the last minutes of extra time and had their victory over FC Veris.
As it was expected, the game was nervous, tense and had minimum of dangerous moments. The first acute episode happened only on 21st minute when Nikolai Josan could not make it after picking up. Ten minutes later Serghei Paschenco showed his great reaction when he reached the ball after Viorel Frunze’s low corner shot. On 34th minute Zoran Zekic made double substitution to Kadu and Ricardinho letting out Isa and Galvao. In the course of the match Paireli and Benson took the field.
In the second 45 the game became more alive. Josan made two good long-range shots but the ball got over the crossbar. At the end of one hour of playing time FC Sheriff missed a good chance to score. Isa got Galvao one to one but the Brazilian made a shot blocked by Gaidukevich. FC Veris tried hard on long balls and set pieces. FC Sheriff in their turn performed quick attacks. Both teams shot at the goal but the goalkeepers did their job well. The regular time ended in a 0:0 draw, so the teams were to play extra time.
Two halves 15 minutes each. In one of them FC Veris looked stronger, in another one FC Sheriff could take the initiative. On 95th and 96th minutes Radu and Ernandes exchanged long shots – no success. Penalty shootout was close but on 117th minute “the yellow-blacks” were able to achieve their goal and scored. Leonel Olimpio sent a pass from the penalty area, Tiago Galvao jumped out and shot to the centre where Fred Benson got free from two central defenders and shot at the goal in one touch.
In a few minutes the referee stated minimal, difficult but very important victory of our team. FC Sheriff will play against FC Milsami in a semifinal match in terms of the Cup of Moldova in the spring. FC Milsami entered the semifinal because FC Costuleni were eliminated from the competition.
